Travel to Borneo with “Betty in the Sky with a Suitcase” – Episode 222

The Amateur Traveler talks to Betty from Betty in the Sky with a Suitecase about her recent trip to Borneo (Sarawak and Sabah) to see the orangutans and proboscis monkeys. Betty flew into Kuching in Sarawak and started in the Demai beach area where she stayed in a treehouse. She saw the Probiscus Monkeys at Bako National Park and the Bat “fireworks” at Mulu National Park. Betty also visited the market at Sandakan and snorkeled off the beaches at Mabul.

Hey Chris great podcast as usual. The number 1 thing I got out of this was I just attended an adventure travel show in DC and I was asking what was in Malaysia besides the “twin towers” and one of the thing the lady told me that they had a chimp rehab center. And like you I was thinking of monkeys needing a 12 step program.

I learned by watch the Travel Channel that you can watch the bats come out to feed at sunset in Austin, without a cave. I couldn’t find it on the Travel Channel website, but a search on ask.com lead me to about.com

Actually “Borneo” refers to the whole island, which includes not just Sarawak and Sabah but Brunei (an independent country) and Kalimantan (the Indonesian part)

Nah I was referring to what your guest said on the show, that Borneo was composed of Sarawak and Sabah

As said above Borneo is more then just Sabah and Sarwak, a lot to axplore at the Indonesian Kalimantan side which is 2/3 of the Borneo Island and a less visited corner of Borneo.
